He first established his business in the Windsor Hotel Building, later Buchanan Bros. Furniture Store. On Whitlock's death, the business was taken over by his nephew, William T. Whitlock. In 1922, he was joined by Guy R. Daye and operated under the name of Daye & Whitlock. Previously, Guy R. Daye was with Ganongs as Office Manager. Their office was in the old Johnson building where the Royal Bank parking lot is now. Whitlock left the business in 1941 to pursue other interests and Raymond Day joined his father at this time.
